Iran’s ‘Zoo’ vying at Durban filmfest in South Africa

Iranian ‘Zoo’ is taking part in the Durban Int'l Film Festival in South Africa.

Iranian short flick ‘Zoo’ has been taking part in the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) in South Africa.

Written and directed by Nafiseh Zare, the short film is on screen at the 43rd edition of the African event.

In the flick, a young mother and her daughter spend a day at the zoo, so that the mother can explain a bitter fact that will change their lives forever to the child.

The father of the child has left them and this is not easy for such a small girl to come along with. However, breaking such news is not that easy for the woman either.

The DIFF is powered by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of Kwazulu-Natal. It fulfils a facilitative function as a promoter of the film industry, creating networking and cultural exchange platforms.

The event gives room to intellectual and creative dialogue to start conversations that trigger innovation and question the world we live in and the lenses through which history is portrayed during a time of conflict and extreme racial tensions.

This year’s edition of the event kicked off on July 21 and is set to wrap up on July 30.
